Notes on history
In 1864, in the place called Pissarelle, some prehistoric implements were discovired.
The environment offered an ideal habitat for human settlement. Another excavation campaign brought to light a necropolis in the recesses of which several cinerary urns were conserved. In the course of history, the primitive town came into contact with the great Roman Empire. The first mention of today’s San Vito al Tagliamento in a historic document dates back to the end of the tenth century.

The histiry of the town passed therefor in the shadow of Aquileia when families, local feudal vassals and serfs paid taxes to the Patriarch in exchange for privileges and fair treatment.
When the Republic of Venice arrived, the town found itself ruled by two authorities: the patriarchal one and the Venetian one. 1751 was a fondamental year when Pope Benedict XIV made the decision to abolishthe Patriarchy of Aquileia. Than the town passed under the Venetian control. During the French Revolution, the Republic of Venice encountered Austria. The fall of Venice left San Vito at the mercyof the foreigners, and so it was first subjected to Vienna and then it was annexed to theItalic Kingdom.
